Laura Reed & Deep Pocket

Laura Reed & Deep Pocket fill the stage with captivating, soul shaking, conscious music. The crowd is emerged with lyrics of truth and a voice of intensity backed by bass, organ, and drums, horns, and harmonies reminiscent of the past days of motown and funk.

The roots of their sound and message stem from Laura's diverse experience of growing up in South Africa and the American South. Formed in the summer of 2006, the band switches up the music between funk, progressive R&B, and pure SOUL behind Laura Reed's captivating stage presence.

Laura Reed's tasteful rhythm section, Deep Pocket, consists of Ryan Burns on piano, synth, and Mama Lou (his 1936 model-A Hammond organ). Ben Didelot brings it all together on the low end with his solid bass lines and occasional dance steps. Jimbonk holds down the rhythm on the drum set with an amazing ability to keep the dynamic just right for not only the song but also the energy of the crowd. Debrissa McKinney has been a recent addition to the group, being referred to as the "masta harmoniza". She elevates the music to the next level of sublime with her positive energy and smooth vocals. You will also catch Deep Pocket with the addition of tasteful guitar by Silas Durocher, the funky Asheville Horns, Soul Revolutionary Sidney Barnes, music master Josh Phillips, and visionary DJ Kurfu.

Throughout their career Laura Reed & Deep Pocket have shared the stage with/recorded with: The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, George Clinton, Peter Rowan, Belita Woods (PFUNK), Gary "Star Child" Shider (PFUNK), Rob Mercurio (Galactic), Larry Jackson (Earth Wind and Fire), Ike Stubblefield (The Funk Bros), Kendra Foster (PFUNK), Sam Bush, The Blue Rags, The Overtakers, Natti Love Joys, The Lee Boys, Dan Adams (Chaka Khan), Blueground Undergrass, DC (Dr. Dre/Erykah Badu), and Pato Banton.

Laura Reed and Deep Pocket have recently released their debut album Soul:Music. The album was recorded at Asheville's own Echo Mountain Studios, and engineered by Bill Reynolds (Band of Horses).

Most recently they have released 2 singles "Happy" and "Gotta Pay de Man" on itunes/Amazon, these tracks produced by Danny Kadar (best known for work with My Morning Jacket and The Avett Brothers). These singles will also be released on vinyl, available through the website.

This music is visionary in it's strive to spread a message of empathy and love for humanity in the unconditional form of music and the raw reflection of the human condition. Laura states music as the most honest and pure expression in her life, a language that allows her to release "what I could never even admit to myself or say out lout, but can sing." When she sings you can feel her soul coming through the speakers, whether it's smooth R&B, funky reggae, or just down right SOUL MUSIC.

Nappy Roots

Nappy Roots is your favorite platinum-selling American alternative southern rap group that originated in Kentucky in 1995 and is best known for hits such as; "Awnaw (Groove Chambers)," "Round Da Globe," and "Po Folks." Nappy Roots has accomplished so much early on in their careers with their first two album releases "Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz" and "Wooden Leather." They were the number one selling hip-hop group in 2002, as well as won various award nominations. The group now consists of Milledgeville, Georgia native Fish Scales, Kentucky natives Skinny DeVille, B. Stille, Ron Clutch, Big V and Oakland. The once major-label sextet is now a quintet running Nappy Roots Entertainment Group (known as NREG), their own record label. After the release of "Wooden Leather" the group decided to depart from Atlantic Records for various reasons including the record label's politics. Sometime after that R. Prophet decided to leave the group in order to pursue his solo career.

After their experience with Atlantic, the group knew that they did not want to be on a major-record label again. Time coupled with an overwhelming amount of fan feedback allowed the group to realize that the demands of their loyal fan base were not being met. After exploring various options the group unanimously decided to choose Tree Leaf Music to Executive produce their next record, "The Humdinger" and for Fontana/Universal Records to handle the distribution for NREG. Nappy Roots teamed up with Greg Street and agreed to have a dual-release of their first single "Good Day." "Good Day" is due to be released on the group's third album titled "The Humdinger" as well as on Greg Street's second debut mix tape album titled "6 o'clock Sertified," which is being distributed by Interscope Records.

With all of the different paths that life could have taken the group down, the guys feel that they are right where they are destined to be. The group's drive and motivation is to continue putting out quality music as well as satisfy their loyal and very much appreciated fan base. Stay tuned because Nappy Roots is back and they aren't going anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Overtakers
The Overtakers are Ruben Brooks, Ruth Brooks and LeRoy Williams. They come to you live and direct straight up from Jamaica. Born in 1950, Ruben Brooks grew up in Kingston, Jamaica with the legends of reggae. He drew inspiration from the same situation that inspired popular Reggae Music recorded in the 1960s and 70s. Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Lee Scratch Perry, each whom Ruben knew personally in his youth, encouraged him on his path towards a musical career. Their instrumentation is mento. Ruben's songs are all original. With Ruth Brooks' rhythm and distinct harmonies along with Leroy Williams' rich and percussive bass tones and vocals, The Overtakers music is distinctive, authentic and moving. The Overtakers carry on with a unique opportunity to innovate modern music. They may have never have been heard outside Jamaica, their music is undiluted by pop music industry. But now with their fusion with American band CX-1, who draws it's influence from Jazz, Bluegrass and World music, the collaboration with The Overtakers creates a new sound with deep roots and ripe fruits.
